The Denver Broncos will consider Robert Griffin III to replace quarterback Brock Osweiler, who signed a $72 million deal with the Houston Texans on Wednesday.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Griffin III is “on the Broncos’ list of replacement quarterbacks,” with Denver potentially hosting the former No. 2 overall pick for a visit in the coming days.

The Super Bowl champions are officially in need of a quarterback.
Peyton Manning announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday. Just two days later, Osweiler took a huge pay day and a chance to play for head coach Bill O’Brien with the Texans—leaving the Broncos with only Trevor Siemian (a seventh-round pick in the 2015 draft) on the roster at the game’s most important position.
Griffin III was released by the Washington Redskins to start the week.
The 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year hasn’t played in a regular season game since the 2014 season. The Redskins kept him safely on the bench in 2015, while Kirk Cousins won the starting job and started all 16 games.
The Broncos won’t have many other options at quarterback, with Griffin III and Ryan Fitzpatrick representing the best of the available players at the position. Colin Kaepernick may eventually be an option, but for now, he’s under contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Brian Hoyer, who started for the Texans last season, may also be an option if he’s released by Houston.
It’s impossible to know if Griffin III can recapture the magic that once made him one of the NFL’s great young stars, but a move to Denver—where Gary Kubiak favors the run and the Broncos still possess one of the best defenses—could be a strong one for the former Baylor star.
