The Atlanta Falcons announced Friday that they had agreed to terms with outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw.
Upshaw, who visited the New York Jets and reportedly had interest from the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers, was the 35th pick overall in the 2012 draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He recorded 111 tackles, five sacks, seven passes defensed and four forced fumbles in four seasons with Baltimore.
This past season, Upshaw had 51 tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed and two forced fumbles. The Ravens were a top-10 defense in 2015, while the Falcons finished in the middle of the pack. Upshaw has started 51 0f 64 regular-season games and four of six playoff games.
Second-year head coach Dan Quinn continues to rebuild the Falcons defense, which has been lacking. Upshaw provides them with experience and toughness.
