Titans rookie QB Zach Mettenberger hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet, but he’s reportedly already had his patience tested by a raucous Bama fan in Nashville.
Over the weekend, while hanging out at Losers Most Wanted Bar & Grill, he was sucker-punched by a fan at the bar, according to a report in The Tennessean.
While the Titans declined to comment on Monday, bar owner Steve Ford had no problem weighing in about what he saw happen.
“Here’s the truth: The guy said something about ‘Roll Tide!’ to Zach, and Zach turned around and said ‘Good luck with that,’ ” Ford said. “And the guy’s buddy then sucker-punched Zach.”
“I promise you that Mettenberger did not throw a punch. He didn’t do anything. The guy sucker-punched him in the eye, that’s the bottom line, and the guy that punched him started running out the door. My door guys had to chase him down.”
Mettenberger is taking the high road, and reportedly said “Bogus rumor” in a direct message to The Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt.
If this report is true, props to Mettenberger for keeping his cool and turning the other cheek. This may be the first time he’s been tested by a fan in his NFL career, but it certainly won’t be the last.
And of course the Bama fan had to yell “Roll tide” before throwing the punch.
