Asomugha and Lechler first team All-Pro, Huff second team

The Raiders’ perennial All Pro players Nnamdi Asomugha and Shane Lechler have been named to the Associated Press first team yet again. This is Nnamdi’s second honor and Lechler’s sixth. Safety Michael Huff earns All Pro second team honors.

Lechler’s six All Pro selections is the most among any of the All Pro team members. He was also named to the first team in 2000, ’03, ’04, and ’08-10. Asomugha is joined again by the Jets’ Darrelle Revis. Asomugha made his last All Pro appearance two years ago.

Lechler’s numbers have been consistently higher than anyone at his position for the better part of the last decade. This year was no different. He is the active and career leader in yards per punt and has led the league five times.

Nnamdi has little of any stats to speak of. He had his coming out party in 2006 when he racked up 8 interceptions. Since then, opposing quarterbacks have simply stayed away from his receiver. He surprisingly didn’t make the All Pro team or even the Pro Bowl until 2008. The lack of balls thrown his direction due to his lock-down abilities is all the statistics necessary to have him named to the Pro Bowl this season as well as the All Pro team.

Michael Huff’s appearance on the second team is a bit of a surprise to many, though statistically he had one of the best seasons of his five year career. He tied his career best from last season with three interceptions, and he had the second most tackles of his career as well. His 94 combined tackles was fifth among free safeties and his three interceptions was tied for seventh.
