Miller, Joseph, other re-signed…surprise!

I have heard many fans lately calling for the Raiders to re-sign KR Justin Miller to the team. Little did we all know, they had already signed him over a week ago. They also re-signed DT William Joseph ubeknownst to the media which found out only when they saw the two players showing up for the first day of offseason workouts.

Ah yes, the life of a Raider reporter. Having to speculate constantly and report from “unnamed sources” all the time. You really gotta hand it to Jason Jones, Jerry McDonald and David White. They have one of the toughest jobs in sports.

Usually the team at least lists it in the transactions section of the website. But in this case they didn’t even do that. “They must not have it out there yet, I guess,” Miller said as he arrived.

I suppose with all the news about the Al Davis and Lane Kiffin pissing match and the signing of OT Khalif Barnes, there wasn’t time to bother announcing such things.

Miller was signed to a two year contract. A Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2006, he joined the Raiders midway through last season after being cut by the Jets. He immediately fit right in, averaging 24.8 yards a return and scoring two touchdown returns in seven games. He had visited the Titans after they had recently lost former Raider KR Chris Carr to the Ravens. But MIller left Tennessee without a deal and opted to stay with the Raiders. He will compete with S Tyvon Branch for the kick return duties next season.

Joseph’s deal was undisclosed but my guess is it is one year at league minimum. He was originally signed last offseason to add depth at the DT spot. He was cut before the season but after injuries at other positions, he was re-signed and gave the Raiders’ lackluster Dline some much needed depth. If the Raiders can pick up a DT in the draft, Joseph will likely be cut again unless he can step up his game and make himself invaluable or one of the other DTs goes down with an injury.

The Raiders’ restricted free agents signing their tenders had been speculated but is now confirmed. Strongside linebacker Ricky Brown signed his $1.545 million tender sheet Thursday. Linbacker/special teams player Jon Alston and long snapper Jon Condo also signed their own $1.01 million tenders for next year.
