Raiders bring back DT Boschetti

The Raiders have invited defensive tackle Ryan Boschetti back for another shot at making the regular season roster. This according to the transactions page on Raiders.com.

He was one of the Raiders offseason acquisitions last year when he signed as a free agent from the Redskins. But, despite Tom Cable speaking glowingly about him, Boschetti was among those players on the final cutdown. Since then, he has been out of the NFL; playing for the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.

Cable knows Boschetti well as Cable was the offensive coordinator at UCLA during the defensive tackle’s time there. Boschetti went undrafted in 2004 and was signed by the Redskins where he spent four seasons as a reserve defensive lineman in Washington.

Ryan was beat out for the Raiders’ final reserve defensive tackle position last season by surprise undrafted free agent rookie Desmond Bryant. But this still left the team with just three defensive tackles on the roster. So after starting the season, the team quickly brought back William Joseph, while Boschetti was not offered a contract.

Boschetti is the second free agent signing at defensive tackle this offseason joining former Raider Chris “Baby Howie” Cooper. The other wildcard is undrafted free agent rookie Kellen Heard. None of whom are game changers but, with not a lot of options, one of them could end up making the squad.
