4 Errors + 1 Arroyo = 5th straight loss for Brewers

The Brewers dropped their 5th straight game with an 8-3 drubbing by the Reds Friday night at Miller Park. The loss, coupled with the Cubs win, dropped the Brewers into 2nd place for the first time since mid-April. The Brewers made 4 errors on the evening, 2 on a bizarre play in the 7th when third baseman Ryan Braun overthrew J.J. Hardy covering second that went into right field…which Corey Hart threw back towards second that sailed over both Hardy and Joe Dillon. Somehow, that debaucle only led to 1 unearned run. Suppan’s pitch count soared early on, finishing at 114 pitches after 5.67 IP. Brian Shouse gave up 2 runs, 1 of which was earned, in 1.33; ironically, Matt Wise pitched a scoreless 8th. Scott Linebrink served up a monster 2-run shot to Adam Dunn. Gabe Gross and J.J. Hardy were the only Brewers with multiple hits; both homered–both of Hardy’s hits were solo home runs. The Brewers are reeling right now, and it seems that they’ve lost all confidence in themselves in their ability to come from behind. A large percentage of their runs are coming off of home runs, usually with no one on base. Ned Yost needs to find a way to get these guys back on the winning track…a pair of back-to-back wins might start to rebuild the self confidence…right now, it just feels like everyone on the Brewers has thrown in the towel and resigned to not winning the division…and that is bumming me out.
