Brewers beat down by Cincinnati

Milwaukee had their 4-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night when the Reds blasted the Brewers, 12-4. The Brewers fell to 6-2 after the loss.
Dave Bush continued to struggle and it now seems almost certain that he will be the odd man out when Yovani Gallardo returns from the DL. Bush gave up five runs, four of which were earned in 5 1/3 innings. He walked three more batters and gave up six hits.
Bush wasn’t alone in his ineffectiveness on Wednesday night. David Riske gave up two hits and a walk in only 2/3 of an inning. Derrick Turnbow made a rare appearance and showed signs of the train wreck that he became in 2006. D-bow walked two and gave up a 2-run home run to Adam Dunn and only pitched one inning. Seth McClung came on for the final two innings and proceeded to add more gasoline to the fire. McClung walked three and gave up five hits, including a home run to Corey Patterson in the ninth. In total, he gave up five runs and raised his season ERA to 12.27. Brewers pitchers gave up a total of nine walks on the night.
Corey Hart and Jason Kendall each had two hits on the night. Ryan Braun hit his third home run of the year in fourth inning and Bill Hall hit a meaningless home run, his fourth of the year, in the ninth.
The top three in the order, Rickie Weeks, Gabe Gross and Prince Fielder went a combined 0-10 with only a walk by Fielder. JJ Hardy went 0-4 with two strikeouts. Perhaps a change is coming? More on that in a minute.
Yovani Gallardo made another rehab start on Wednesday and looks to be on pace to join the team next weekend in Cincinnati. In fact, there is talk that he could be recalled as soon as Thursday. Tony Gwynn was put on the DL after the game due to his quad injury. Hernan Iribarren was called up and will likely be nothing more than another bat off the bench. A spot start at second base or short stop would be nice just to give him the experience.
The Brewers and Reds will conclude their 3-game series on Thursday afternoon at 12:05 when Carlos Villanueva takes on Aaron Harang of the Reds.
