Crew takes first from Cards, 3-2

One of the Cardinals’ World Series heroes from last year had a great night in St. Louis last night…but, this time, for the visiting team. Of course, I’m talking about Brewers’ starter Jeff Suppan, who faced his former club Saturday evening, going 6.33 IP and only allowing a pair of runs, 6 hits, 0 walks while fanning 5…Soup improved to 1-2, 3.72 on the year. Yost went to his big guns in the well-rested pen, then, going with Brian Shouse and Greg Aquino to each get an out in the 7th, before having Derrick Turnbow and Francisco Cordero each fan a pair in the 8th and 9th, respectively, to secure the third consecutive win for the Brew Crew. The Brewers remain in first, this time alone, 1 game ahead of the Reds in the loss column. Rickie Weeks continued his success on the road trip, going 2-for-4, including a 2-run dinger off Cards’ starter Kip Wells. Across the river, prospect Ryan Braun also had a big night–cranking three homers off former major leaguer Chan Ho Park. Onto Sunday’s Jackie Robinson game, with Ben Sheets getting the nod…hopefully, Ned Yost will put in Bill Hall, again, not because Hall is an African-American, but because Hall needs playing time to get out of his early season funk (well, at least it worked for Rickie).
