Tenacious win in 13th, 4-2

Tuesday’s series opener against the Mets, for all intents and purposes, looked, sounded, and felt like a playoff game at Miller Park (hey, Jesse, I was 20 in ’82–I remember!). Sellout crowd, first-place Mets in town, future Hall of Famer Tom Glavine squaring off against 2006 World Series hero Jeff Suppan. The highlights:

  • Tom Glavine went 6 innings for the Mets, allowing just 2 hits, and took a 2-1 lead into the 7th in his quest for his 300th career win
  • Jeff Suppan tenaciously hung in there, only allowing 2 earned runs over 6.33 IP
  • The resurging Billy Hall doubled in the tying run in the 8th off Mets’ reliever Aaron Heilman
  • Both bullpens pitched scoreless 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th innings…Chris Spurling pitched a phenomenal 2.33 innings for the Crew, while Jorge Sosa kept the Crew’s bats in check; the Brewers used 8 pitchers on the night, including Wednesday night’s projected starter, Dave Bush
  • Geoff Jenkins reclaimed some limelight with a 2-run, walk-off homer in the 13th to win it

Claudio Vargas will take Bush’s place on the mound Wednesday evening; Elmer Dessens re-joins the club, and Rickie Weeks was sent to Nashville…Joe Dillon will take his place on the 25-man.
