Top prospect fails another drug test

Milwaukee Brewers’ top pitching prospect, Jeremy Jeffress, has failed his second drug test in less than 6 months.
Jeffress, 20, is already in the process of serving a 50-game suspension that will carry well into the 2008 season. The second offense will result in a 100-game suspension and basically wipe out the entire 2008 season for Jeffress.
Jeffress was the Brewers top pick in the 2006 MLB draft. He was drafted right out of high school and was having a good year up until his suspension. With a fastball that approaches 100 mph, Jeffress finished with a 9-5 record with a 3.13 ERA. He had 95 strikeouts in only 86 1/3 innings pitched.
This will seriously stunt Jeffress’ development. He obviously has  a problem with marijuana and needs to figure out if smoking weed is more important to him than playing professional baseball. It is a blow to the Brewers future rotation as Jeffress was projected to make the big club in the 2010 season.
