Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus probably isn’t too thrilled with his play as of late. But he’s a professional, so an odd rant posted on Instagram Wednesday smacks of it not coming from the star tackle himself.
Alas, the post made the rounds in a hurry and was screen-capped by The Score:
Dareus was quick to take to Twitter and shoot down his involvement:
The Bills later echoed the hacked claim.
Alas, the hack speaks to the feelings around Dareus’ play this year. He surely isn’t happy about it and neither are fans, not after he signed a $100 million contract extension last year. Not only has Dareus struggled on the field at times, at least compared to his contractual numbers, he had to serve a four-game suspension this year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
More than anything, this serves as the latest example of professional players needing to make sure they have a strong grip on their social media accounts. This incident was quickly classified as fake, but the next athlete, pro or otherwise, might not be as fortunate.
