Max Scherzer to Start Game 3 For Nationals

Max Scherzer’s tweaked hamstring has kept him from starting the first two games of the National League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs. According to recent reports, Scherzer will be able to start Game 3 for the Nationals against the Cubs in what could be a pivotal game. Before Game 2, Scherzer went through a series of exercises and threw a short bullpen session and the Nationals expect him to be a full go for Game 3.

Scherzer has been dominant in 31 starts for the Nationals in 2017. In 200 2/3 innings, he has posted a 2.51 ERA with an excellent 268/55 K/BB ratio. He only faced the Cubs once in 2017 on June 27th. Scherzer was his usual dominant self and pitched six innings, setting down six Cubs on strikes, and only giving up one hit and one walk.

The Nationals head into a crucial, must-win Game 2 against the Cubs with Gio Gonzalez on the bump. Whether the Nationals win or lose today against the Cubs, Scherzer is in a must win situation — to save the season or to take a one game lead against the Cubs.
