Rams apparently wishing for Pete Carroll as head coach

Before anyone asks, Pete Carroll still coaches the Seattle Seahawks. This fact, though, apparently won’t stop the Los Angeles Rams from expressing an interest in Carroll as the team’s next head coach.

Los Angeles just surprisingly gave the boot to Jeff Fisher, who many figured was sticking with the Rams for a bit after inking an extension.

Alas, maybe this means it doesn’t mater that Carroll has an extension with the Seahawks. Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson revealed the Rams might attempt to express interest:

How big? Multiple sources with insight into the earliest stages of the Rams coaching search said there is a monster name that intrigues the power brokers inside the franchise: the Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll. The same Pete Carroll who faces the Rams on Thursday night. The same Pete Carroll who resides inside the NFC West. And the same Pete Carroll who is under contract with Seattle through the 2019 season.

Carroll would be an exceptionally difficult coach to reel in, maybe as close to impossible as a candidate could be outside of the New England Patriots’ Bill Belichick. But that may not stop the Rams from expressing interest.

This is an odd, odd report, almost on par with the one yesterday about Jim Harbaugh wanting to leave Michigan for the Rams (not happening). It’s almost as if someone is trying to drum up as much hype as possible for the opening.

Almost. At best, this report shows the type of coach the Rams covet—an emotional tactician who fits the flair of Los Angeles. Carroll, though, likely won’t have any interest in ditching a Super Bowl contender paying him through 2019.

This doesn’t mean others won’t have an interest. The Rams have a nice base of defensive talent and need to rework the offense. Plenty of names, especially given the locale, will have an interest in the gig—but few may actually bring as much hype as some of the names on the team’s wishlist.
