Ezekiel Elliott is about to break the Dallas Cowboys rookie rushing record, and no one could be more happier for him than the man who set the record—Tony Dorsett.
The Hall of Fame running back told TMZ Sports he will be rooting for Elliott to break his record. Dorsett set the record in 1977 when he rushed for 1,007 yards. Elliott is just two yards short of the historic mark that stood for almost four decades.
Dorsett says in the clip there should be an asterisk next to Elliott’s name in the Cowboys record book because Elliott has started every game this season and therefore got more carries. Dorsett only started four of his team’s games in 1977.
Still, Elliott has been truly amazing to watch this season. He leads the NFL in rushing and is averaging more than 100 yards per game.
