Eagles Weekly Recap: Week 4, Injury round-up, Wentz/Elliott deal, and more

Welcome to another edition of the Eagles Weekly Recap. After a miraculous win over the New York Giants thanks to rookie kicker Jake Elliot, the Eagles are looking to continue their momentum as they head into the fourth week of the season. Let’s get into it:

  • This afternoon, the Eagles will head to Carson, California to take on Phillip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Eagles are currently slated as underdogs in today’s match-up, and all eyes will focus on how a banged-up Eagles defense will look against Rivers and the Chargers’ offense.

  • Speaking of injuries, the Eagles will be without defensive tackle Fletcher Cox as he is dealing with a calf injury suffered in last week’s win against the Giants. Safety Rodney McLeod (hamstring) and Jordan Hicks (ankle) both missed practice time this week are listed as questionable. On a more devastating injury note, the Eagles learned that running back Darren Sproles will miss the remainder of the 2017 season with a torn ACL and broken arm, both of which were suffered on a single play last Sunday.

  • Earlier this week, the Eagles signed running back Kenjon Barner to a one-year deal, likely setting him to be the replacement for Sproles. Barner previously played in Philly from 2015-16 before having a short stint with the Chargers.

  • A congratulations goes to Eagles’ heroic kicker Jake Elliot, who was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his 61-yard field goal (longest in team history and longest by any rookie kicker in league history) lifted the Eagles past the New York Giants.

  • Speaking of, some may have heard quarterback Carson Wentz stating he would his game check to Elliot if he made the field goal. It was later reported that Wentz will donate a portion of his check to a charity of Elliot’s choice. Although it has not been confirmed whether the two are related, Wentz donated $120,000 to Canine Partners for Life, leading him to be awarded the NFLPA Community MVP for this week.

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned with Total Sports Live for the latest involving the Philadelphia Eagles.
