Penn State Football: Major news to be announced Saturday afternoon

Penn State President and Director of Athletes Dave Joyner are scheduled to make a major announcement at a press conference at 4:15 P.M. on Saturday, January 11th.

We heard yesterday that Penn State and James Franklin were close to a deal, and that it would likely be announced on Saturday. Well, Penn State just announced that they will hold a major press conference tomorrow, which is Saturday. Penn State didn’t say what the press conference will be about but it seems obvious that it will be about the hiring of James Franklin.

Franklin has been coaching in the NCAA for eight years; his career record is 24-15 in the regular season and 2-1 in bowl games.

ESPN reports Franklin is expected to receive a contract worth up to $4.5 million per year. That is a lot of money, especially for a college football coach. That’s almost one million dollars more than Bill O’Brien, for those wondering.

Penn State pretty much needed to hire a coach before the 15th of January, or else their recruiting classes would be dramatically hurt. For more information about Penn State’s recruiting situation, click here.
