Tennessee Titans sign DT Leger Douzable

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly signed DL Leger Douzable, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, to a one-year deal. Considering Douzable is mentioning it on his own twitter, I’m willing to accept it notwithstanding the absence of team confirmation.

Douzable played his college ball at Central Florida before going undrafted in 2008. He started his career on the Vikings practice squad, then spent some of 2008 on the Giants roster. He joined the Rams practice squad in 2009, then made his NFL debut with the Rams in 2009, playing in 12 games and starting one. He was waived first by the Rams, then by the Lions in 2010, before the Jaguars picked him up. He spent 2010 and 2011 with the Jaguars. 2011 was his most productive season, as he played in every game, starting six times, and had 38 tackles and his first career sack by taking down Matt Hasselbeck in Week 16.

Officially listed at 6’4″, 284 pounds, Douzable is something of a tweener between a big defensive end and an undersized defensive tackle. It’s tough to sort out the bottom of the defensive line rotation in early April, but throw him somewhere in with Malcom Sheppard competing for a limited number of snaps at defensive end and probably at the bottom of the defensive tackle mix along with Sheppard, Zach Clayton, and Lamar Divens. It’s certainly not a splash signing, and I wouldn’t even call Douzable a lock to make the roster, but he’s another body at a position where the Titans needed bodies.
