Which corner will the Titans draft in the third round?

One position of need was filled in the first round with the Titans’ selection of DE Derrick Morgan. Cornerback, the Titans’ other primary need, is expected to be addressed in the third round tonight. Unless the Titans are able to trade up into the second round, which will be difficult, expect to wait until later in the evening to find out which corner will join Morgan in the Titans’ draft class of 2010. Tennessee has the 77th pick and the Fat Albert compensatory 97th pick.
CBs Joe Haden, Kareem Jackson, Devin McCourty, Kyle Wilson and Patrick Robinson all heard their names called in the first round but plenty of good corners are still available. Following are thumbnails of some of those corners, including a few who have return skills.
Jerome Murphy, 6’0″ 196 South Florida
Big hitter, strong in run support. Better in zone than man coverage. Met with Titans.
Chris Cook, 6’2″ 212 Virginia
Good size and speed. Impressed scouts with a good Senior Bowl week.
Dominique Franks, 5’11” 194 Oklahoma
Versatile and athletic. Also returns punts and kicks.
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, 6’0″ 207 Indiana (PA)
Athletic Division II standout who might also play FS. Also returned punts and kicks.
Kevin Thomas, 6’0″ 192 Southern Cal
Good zone defender. Had an impressive Pro Day. One-year starter with an injury history.
Javier Arenas, 5’9″ 197 Alabama
Dangerous punt returner. Height is a concern, may be better playing nickel or in zone coverage.
Brandon Ghee, 6’0″ 192 Wake Forest
Big hitter, strong run defender. Should be good in zone.
Donovan Warren, 5’11” 193 Michigan
Productive. Might need to switch to FS.
Perrish Cox, 5’11” 195 Oklahoma State
Press cover corner and kick returner. Some maturity/character issues. Visited with Titans.
Myron Lewis, 6’2″ 203 Vanderbilt
Might be a better FS. Visited Titans as a local prospect.
Amari Spievey, 5’11” 195 Iowa
Physical zone corner. Strong in run support.
Syd’quan Thompson, 5’9″ 186 California
Press corner, good in zone or as a nickel. Very physical for his size.
Trevard Lindley, 5’11” 183 Kentucky
Man-to-man cover corner. Has injury history/durability concerns.
Walter Thurmond, 5’11” 189 Oregon
Very highly rated before blowing out a knee. Still rehabbing it.
Devin Ross, 5’10” 183 Arizona
Talented but a bit raw. Could be a project.
Alterraun Verner, 5’10” 189 UCLA
Good instincts, highly productive. Lacks ideal speed.
By no means are all of these players projected to be third-round draftees but after the Titans reached for Ryan Mouton in the third round last year it won’t surprise me to see them reach again. Do any of those guys interest you?
