Most players have to earn their way to home plate—but don’t tell that to Baltimore Orioles minor leaguer Quintin Berry.
During the ninth inning of Thursday’s Norfolk Tides-Syracuse Chiefs game, Berry cranked out a base hit that trickled into the outfield. He represented the tying run at first base, and gave the team some hope.
But for some reason, he began arguing with the first base umpire. He was promptly ejected from the game just seconds after.
Instead of walking back to the dugout, though, he decided to take the road less traveled and ran the bases!
And he even slid into home. The play-by-play announcers were confounded, and at one point remarked, “What’s happening?”
Maybe it was Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” that inspired him, which was blasting over the stadium’s speakers during that time.
The home crowd made sure to boo him after sliding into home plate.
