Rudy To Boston?

No, not that Rudy. Rudy Seanez may be returning to Boston as Ken Rosenthal reports that he will sign a one-year deal with an option for a second deal. Seanez’s agent stated that “It’s looking very good that something likely will get done at some point in the next few days. In principle, we’re almost there.”
Seanez was a below average reliever from 1990-1995, and dissapeared from the MLB for three years. He returned in 1998 and through 2001, was an effective reliever. In 2002, he had a 5.73 ERA for Texas. He saw time in Boston in 2003 – 8.2 IP worth, with a 6.23 ERA. He turned it around for Kansas City in 2004 and then was traded to the eventual World Champion Marlins. He had a 3.33 ERA in 46 IP then last year hurled 60.3 IP with the Padres for a 2.69 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and an opponent batting average of .222.
Quick take: I like it. He alternates between terrible and good his entire career, but I can’t see why he can’t give us at least league average relief – and that should spell the end of Chad Bradford in Boston – something I’ve been advocating for. I like Bradford, but if you can’t pair him up with Mike Myers, there’s no point in carrying him. A ROOGY is only good if you have a LOOGY.
