Yes, I know you are having flashbacks of a hanging slider leaving Minute Maid park as you read this simply because you have read the words: Brad Lidge and then thought about Albert Pujols rounding the bases after his mammoth blast.
Lidge’s name will be synonymous with that of Pujols forever, but that aside Lidge has a lot to offer to this ball club if he were to be traded.
Lidge is 1-1 with a 1.07 ERA in 22 appearances since May 1st. He is currently on the 15 day disabled list, although adding him to an already stacked Red Sox bullpen only strengthens their chances for post season play.
Imagine having Lidge come into the seventh inning, a dominant closer in 2004 and 2005 with 71 saves combined, following with Hideki Okajima who has been a perfect fit in the eighth, and then leaving the game up to possibly the best closer in the game in Jonathan Papelbon.
Baseball theory now leans towards making the game shorter and shorter with your bullpen, well, the Red Sox have the chance to do it if they trade for Lidge.
With a 1.27 WHIP, .217 BAA, and a 2.34 ERA so far this season Lidge could be a great compliment to Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon for the eighth and ninth innings not only making the game shorter, but also
