Tuesday Updated Links

Some more stuff for you on this Tuesday.

Jim Williams of the DC/Baltimore Examiner likes the teaming of Tony Kornheiser and Ron Jaworski in the ESPN Monday Night Football booth. Neil Best in his Newsday Watchdog blog agrees with Williams’ assessment. I didn’t see it because the power in my house went out due to National Grid taking my neighborhood offline to make repairs due to downed power lines. Thanks guys.

Don Imus has settled with CBS Radio for a paltry $20 million and is supposedly in talks with WABC radio in New York. The station was recently acquired by Citidel Broadcasting.

Over to the Big Ten Network which released its schedule of games for men’s basketball today. The channel will carry the bulk of the Iowa men’s basketball conference schedule. The question is will Iowans be able to watch the games? Bob Baptist of the Columbus Dispatch says Ohio State will play 18 conference games, up from the 16 from the last few years, but again, while most will be televised on BTN, Ohioans will also have problems watching the games. BTN studio host Dave Revsine and studio analyst Gerry DiNardo visited the Penn State campus yesterday as part of their tour of all Big Ten member institutions. There is a distressing picture on the Penn State Live site of both men in shorts. Here’s the official press release from BTN on the schedule of conference games to be broadcast starting January 2, 2008.

Gordon Engelhardt of the Evansville (IN) Courier-Press says he’ll miss listening to Dan Patrick (Gordon, he’s coming back in September).

Yesterday, I gave you a link from the Consumerist blog about the NFL Network vs. Comcast. Today, the Consumerist received a copy of what Time Warner cable customer service reps are supposed to read to those who call wanting the NFL Network. You can read the full document here.

Finally, thanks to the Sports Media Watch blog for linking to my first entry today which contained Richard Sandomir’s story in the New York Times on Joe Buck doing a minimal amount of MLB games (only 8) this season. I said it earlier today and I’ll say it again. If Fox wants a person to be the #1 announcer for MLB, it would be better served to find someone who will do the entire season. Imagine Curt Gowdy, Bob Costas, Vin Scully or Joe Garagiola doing just one third of the 26 Game of the Week schedule, but that’s exactly what Joe Buck is doing and he’s finished doing MLB until the playoffs. That’s unacceptable. Buck is quoted in the story as wanting to spend the summers with his family. That’s fine. Give up MLB and allow someone else to do the games. Fox has an entire stable of baseball announcers from its Fox Sports Net channels from across the country. I’m sure the network can find a replacement for Buck easily.

Those are your links for now. If something breaks on the Dennis & Callahan story, I’ll let you know. For now, that’s it. I’ll have the Viewing Choices coming up.
