Hardy error leads to 5-1 Brewers’ loss

Just moments after J.J. Hardy scored the tying run in the top of the 5th, Hardy bobbled a grounder in the bottom of the 6th that could have been turned into a double play. Instead, the muff led to four unearned runs by the Nationals and, eventually, a Brewers’ loss.
Jeff Suppan’s lone earned run was a home run by Wily Mo Peña in the second inning; Hardy then tied the game after singling, stealing second, taking third on Billy Hall’s sac fly, and scoring after Suppan singled him in to tie the game at 1-1. Suppan went 5 2/3 IP, allowing just three hits.
Brian Shouse and Tim Dillard (just called up from Nashville to replace Eric Gagne, who was put on the 15-day DL) went 1 1/3 and 1 innings, respectively, with neither allowing a hit…in other words, the Nationals scored 5 runs on just 3 hits. But the Brewers’ offense could only muster 8 hits on the night, with only 2 of those for extra bases–both doubles.
The Crew tries to bounce back Saturday afternoon.
