Colts and Pats top the Bendability index

The Colts and Patriots are best known for their Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Those two names light up the marquee boards this week as the two clubs prepare for their annual regular-season showdown.

But its the defenses that are among the best in football this year:

• the Colts are No. 1 in scoring defense (13.5 PPG)
• the Patriots are No. 2 in scoring defense (14.4 PPG)

The two teams also rank Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in Bendability, our measure of team-wide defensive efficiency. They’re the only two teams in football that force opponents to march more than 20 Yards Per Point Allowed.
