Monday Links – Early Christmas Presents, Pink Slips, & a Bloguin Welcome

Just like Bob, I was also M.I.A. last week while spending time with family. Now that I’ve gained 10 lbs. and have a mountain of work to do, we’ll get back to your regularly scheduled D4L links, sponsored by Beverley Mitchell.

  • The Triple Deke already has some of their early Christmas shopping done for the Red Wings players and coaching staff (or just Mike Babcock). I’d like to add a gift for Larry Murphy: a pack of Ballpark Franks, a bag of hot dog buns, a George Foreman, and a six-pack of Bud Light. Those that watched the Wings on FSD early in the season know how excited Murph was about Dollar Hot Dog Night. No doubt he’d want to wash those dogs down with a few cold ones too.
  • I’m starting to scare myself with how accurate my NBA predictions are this year. Not only did I call the Byron Scott firing, I singled out newly-canned Lawrence Frank as well (though his team was 0-8 at the time). I’m not going to name any more names now, because apparently I’ve become the kiss of death for NBA coaches.
  • Speaking of people getting fired, the inevitable has come from South Bend. For those who are unaware (read: living under a rock), Charlie Weis was basically the Notre Dame football version of Tommy Amaker: recruited top talent but couldn’t develop it at the next level. Bob Stoops and Brian Kelly are the two big names floating around, but The Big Lead throws Tony Dungy’s name into the ring.
  • Much like everyone thought, the Allen Iverson “retirement” probably won’t last long. The Philadelphia 76ers have shown interest in bringing Iverson back. The Sixers are without guard Lou Williams, who is 100% on-board with an A.I. signing, until at least January with a broken jaw.
  • To illustrate just how far M.I.A. I’ve been in the last week, I just realized that Nightmare on Helm Street has joined us at the Bloguin network. Make sure to check out the site (and that SWEET banner).
  • Major League Jerk points out how badly embarrassed the ACC was in its non-conference action this weekend. People can bash the Big Ten all they want, but I can’t remember a weekend where an entire conference was flat-out humiliated like the ACC was on Saturday.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day Week
Today’s highlight comes from The Egg Bowl (Mississippi vs. Mississippi State) on Saturday. I couldn’t find a stand-alone video of this, but Shay Hodge’s TD catch (at the :20 mark) will be on highlights for years to come.
