Casper Wells, Your Friendly Call-Up

According to his Triple-A teammate Robbie Weinhardt on Twitter, Casper Wells is getting the call to the bigs:

“Congrats to my brother @upstateballer getting the call up to Detroit!!”

The tweet has since been deleted, but that’s more than likely because he got in trouble for breaking the news, not because it’s false.

Based off of Casper Wells’ Minor League numbers, it’s a rather generous call-up, though.  Wells is hitting just .203 with 12 RBIs in 31 games at Triple-A Toledo and just five for his last 37 (.135).  He does have five homers, and had a monster spring (.385 BA with a .414 OBP), but you have to wonder how the two outfielders currently hitting better than him in AAA feel.  Or Jeff Larish.  But c’est la politique.

Having said all that, I’m a big fan of Casper Wells overall.  He’s a big bat, a top 10 prospect in the Tigers’ system, and can play all three outfield spots.  His hot spring really opened my eyes, but I’ve taken notice of him before simply because of his name.  Imagine all the fun I could have with him making things happen!  Chalk one up to that cause.
