Mellanby Returns as an Assistant Coach

Mellanby Returns as an
Assistant Coach

Blackhawks v Blues

Scott Mellanby is coming back to St. Louis. You should remember his time as a skater for the Blues between 2001 and 2004, but he now returns as an assistant coach behind Davis Payne.

Mellanby had been serving as a scout/consultant in the Vancouver organization, but will depart to join the St. Louis coaching staff when his current contract expires. Mellanby will join current assistant coaches Brad Shaw and Ray Bennett for the 2010-11 season.

Mellanby has no previous coaching experience, but should bring plenty of insight from a player’s perspective as he skated in 1,431 regular season games at the NHL level.

Our View:
Nice move by the Blues. Mellanby played hard during his time in St. Louis as a player, and could be a great fit in a role working with the players. He has always come across as an intelligent and genuine individual, and should bring a fresh look to the Blues organization from behind the bench.
Mellanby has always been respected in every organization he has been apart of, and could provide guidance for the team’s youngsters.

Mellanby was appreciated by St. Louis fans due to his hard work ethic, and he should get a great ovation on opening night.

Welcome back.
