Gamecocks Blister Sun Devils at CWS

Manti

Thanks to an eight run second inning from USC as it propelled the Gamecocks to an 11-4 victory over the national number one seed Arizona State Sun Devils at the College World Series.

The win sends ASU home to Tempe and the Gamecocks live to fight another day in Omaha.  USC was lead by a strong outing from winning pitcher Sam Dyson, who threw 7.1 innings, striking out 3 and allowing only 4 earned runs to a very good ASU club.

USC’s offense came to play today as Jackie Bradley Jr., Adrian Morales and Whit Merrifield had homers over the fence.  Bradley, who went 3 for 4 and extended his hitting streak to 18 games, matched his career high with four RBIs.  Whit also finished with a 3-for-5 kind of day at the plate with a HR as mentioned.  Good to see the “hot” bats come alive in Omaha.

As I look back at my “keys to a USC,” I give the Gamecocks A’s across the board and happy I got my score prediction wrong.

South Carolina (49-16) will face the loser of the Clemson versus Oklahoma game on Thursday night at 7 p.m. EDT.

This game was a big sigh of relief for us gamecock fans as we did not want to see a 0-2 showing at the CWS as this team is better than that.  It showed today.  This team has the tools to make a CWS run and I for one hope to see this kind of run production and good pitching again on Thursday.
