Avoiding 82

So the Pirates have lost something like a 1,000,000 of their last 1,000,001 games and they’re standing on the precipice of an unprecedented 18th consecutive losing season. When they clinch it, people are going to say a lot of very unkind things about the team, about the management, about the fans, about the franchise in general. Obviously the Pirates aren’t going to go 41-0 and break this skid this year, so all I’m asking for is this: let’s show a little pride and a little back bone and drag this thing out for as long as possible.

Four years ago, the Mets rolled in to PNC in early September just needing one win against the Pirates to clinch the NL East. They didn’t get it. Let’s relive a little bit of that magic this weekend, huh? Is it too much to ask?
