Your Choice: Buckeye Kickoff Song

By

You can hear it, you can feel it...

A couple of weeks ago, we asked you what you thought our kickoff song should be.  Based on your comments and our insight here at tBBC, this is the email we will be sending over to the sports marketing department:

OSU Marketing Department,

We at thebuckeyebattlecry.com had hosted a friendly debate in which we asked our readers what the kickoff song should be and we promised to send the suggested songs over to you.

Clearly what we have seen in the first two weeks is that the choice continues to be “Seven Nation Army” by  the White Stripes.  While we think there are many that do enjoy this song, there are some that are concerned that it is being overused: kickoffs, during timeouts, and other times during a game.

Seven Nation Army is awesome, but we are hoping you’ll consider identifying an “official” kickoff song that only serves that purpose. Think of the usage of  AC/DC’s “Hells Bells” for the 3rd downs, or “Hang On Sloopy” to begin the fourth quarter- having a dedicated tune for specific situations creates tradition that enhances the experience for generations of Buckeye fans.

For your enjoyment, here is the original article and user comments: Kickoff Song Ideas

While it doesn’t include the emails that we received, it is indicative of both Buckeye fans’ excitement for the season and ideas for something that will continue the tradition of excitement that surrounds Ohio State football.

Here are the picks from the writers from the blog, based on personal opinion and reader feedback:

  • “Bulls on Parade”- Rage Against The Machine (3 votes)
  • “Danger Zone” – Kenny Loggins
  • “For Those About to Rock” – AC/DC (2 votes)
  • “Hysteria”- Muse
  • “Let’s Go”- Trick Daddy
  • “No Leaf Clover- Metallica
  • “Them Bones”- Alice in Chains

Based on this our recommendation for “official” kickoff song is Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine.

While it may be too late to acquire copy-write permissions for the rest of the 2010 season, we hope you’ll keep this in consideration for the future.

Thanks to all who participated in our survey; we couldn’t do this without you!
