What’s left? Just baseball.

The Pirates have 101 losses and by losing last night, they likely lost their chance to spoil the Cardinals’ season as the Reds kick off against the Astros at 7:10 in Cincinnati tonight and can wrap things up likely before the Pirates and Cardinals finish. So what we have tonight is two non-playoff teams (one mediocre, one awful) starting two bad pitchers (Brian Burres and Jeff Suppan) in a game that really doesn’t mean much more than a spring training game.

But it’s still a baseball game. In four days, we won’t have baseball to watch every evening of afternoon. We’ll be reduced to speculating about the hot stove, the Rule 5 draft, non-tenders, winter ball, and all of the other things that are vaguely related to baseball but are distinctly not baseball. So maybe instead of getting caught up in bad calls or awful records or the terrible things that tend to happen to the Pirates on the road, we should just enjoy this game for what it is.
