Thomas Howard recognized for philanthropy

Thomas Howard recognized for philanthropyOakland Raiders linebacker Thomas Howard was awarded a Community Impact Award by the Bay Area Blacks in Philanthropy (BABIP) on Wednesday.

The linebacker is being recognized for his work with the Thomas Howard Foundation.

BABIP is a regional nonprofit membership organization dedicated to advancing the interests of African Americans in philanthropy and address the impact of racial disparity in the San Francisco Bay Area.

 

The Thomas Howard Foundation programs will include the following scholarships and programs:

* Annual Walk-On Scholarship:  Granted to a select athlete each year with great potential, but who was not granted a full scholarship at a four-year collegiate institution.

* YFL Football Uniforms Scholarship Fund:  Each year the Foundation will sponsor uniforms and equipment for a Youth Football team.

* Are You Smarter than a 4th Grader?  Designed to support curriculum reinforcement through fun activities. Thomas Howard along with two NFL team mates will team up in a game-style format to compete against 4th graders throughout the city of Oakland.

* After-School All-Stars:  This program, founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, is dedicated to raising funds to provide at-risk youth with enriching after-school programs. During this NFL season, Howard is partnering with ASAS with its Touchdown Shutdown Program, while it will also expand programming and visibility for the Thomas Howard Foundation.

Additionally, the Thomas Howard Foundation will also host a future fundraising event and hope to encourage Raiders fans and supporters to participate.
