Here's a quick look at the pros/cons from last night's 117-112 victory over the Toronto Raptors.
Cons:
- The Celtics led by 29-points (97-68) with 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter. With 38 seconds left in the game, the lead was 112-108. Even in a meaningless preseason game with 2nd and 3rd string guys on the floor, you'd prefer not to be in that situation. Ugh.
- DeMar DeRozan threw down a vicious dunk on Glen Davis.
Pros:
- Rajon Rondo had 21 points in 22 minutes. He made 12 of 15 FTs in the 3rd quarter.
- Von Wafer had 14 points (3-3 3 FG) in 26 minutes. His best outing yet. Was it enough to secure the final roster spot?
- Nate Robinson continues to light it up: 23 points, 5 rebounds.
Good to see Rondo flip the switch. He said he's been taking it slow to help the new guys get acclimated to the system.
As for Wafer, Doc said:
“That was a good night from him, we needed that from him, it’s going to be a tight decision pretty soon,’’ Rivers said. “He’s got to be alert and ready. His defense, he’s got to learn our schemes. He’s been through the whole camp now. We can’t wait much longer. So I thought tonight was good for him. He needed that.’’
While Stephane Lasme probably deserves to make the team based on his play, I think the Celtics are going to go with Von. He fills a need.
On Page 2, Shaq comments on the officiating.
“The other night, I don’t think KG did anything to get tossed out,” Shaq said. “If you’re going to give them that much control, then you might as well just start selling their jerseys. I just think if you give those guys that much control, you might as well start selling their jerseys at Foot Locker also.
“You can’t cut off an emotional game and expect people not to have any emotions. They should probably cut off the secondary and the third emotion, but if they give us room to respectively react once and maybe twice – just keep it the way it was. If it ain’t broke then don’t fix it.”

Shaq's right on. Allow the initial reaction (provided it doesn't include a bitch slap), but draw the line at the prolonged complaining.
