Rich Rodriguez Truly, Madly, Deeply Wants To Be A Michigan Man

I didn’t think anything could get softer than Michigan’s defense, and then I read the recap of Michigan’s team banquet, which took place tonight in Livonia. Rich Rodriguez, who compared last season to Hurricane Katrina at the banquet a year ago, provided quite the encore:

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez fought back tears, talking about the toll his job has taken on his family, and used passages from the Bible and a Josh Groban song during an emotional address that closed the team’s banquet. […]

[…] Rodriguez wiped sweat off his brow early and often during the 3-hour event.

“This hot-seat stuff is not very much fun,” he quipped.

Then, he got serious with a prepared speech.

He cited Hebrews, talking about the faith he had in program’s direction, and talked about how Groban’s “You Raise Me Up,” inspires him before having it played. Rodriguez, his wife, Rita, Brandon and players stood on risers with their hands held above their heads as the song blared in the ballroom.

Sweet Dee, Josh Groban!?  Rodriguez also said during the banquet that he “truly wants to be a Michigan man.” I’m surprised he didn’t use that as a segue into some Savage Garden.  This all has ‘desperate coach who knows he has exactly one game left at Michigan’ written all over it, in comic sans. Frankly, I’m embarrassed he’s still the coach.

Somebody get the Comeback Kid on the phone.
