Tyreke Evans (ankle) is doubtful for tomorrow’s game at Toronto

Evans rolled his left ankle in the first quarter of Thursday night’s victory against the Denver Nuggets.  After the game, Evans was visibly in pain and avoided placing weight on the troublesome ankle.  I had a chance to ask him about the ankle and here is what he had to say:

I just sprained it probably a little bit.  It’s kind of sore, I got a sleeve on it right now.  I’ll get treatment and wear the boot tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be ready for Toronto.

Evans initially rolled his left ankle during the summer auditions for Team USA.  The sprained ankle is what Evans attributes the development of his painful plantar fasciitus to, which has hampered him all season.  Hopefully, this is a mild sprain and will not re-aggravate the plantar fasciitus issue that Evans appeared to be almost recovered from.

Jason Jones added later that if Evans can’t go, newly acquired Jermaine Taylor will take his place in the starting line-up.  The 24-year-old Taylor has played a total of 20 minutes with the Kings since joining the club after a December 15th trade from Houston.

Coach Paul Westphal has tightened his rotation dramatically over the last five games.  While many people will ask why Jermaine Taylor and not Pooh Jeter or Omri Casspi, this is on par with the philosophy that Westphal has continued to preach all season.  Coach Westphal believes that keeping continuity with the second unit is as important as keeping it with the first unit.  By inserting one of his key rotational second unit players into the starting line-up, he would disturb both the first and second unit as opposed to only the first.

Let’s hope for a speedy recovery for the Kings budding star or this six game road trip might feel even longer.
