Yet Another Recruiting Update!

Happy Monday Cougs!!!

I hope you all had as wonderful weekend as I did!!  My brother scored us free tickets to the Seahawks game this Saturday and we witnessed one of the best games (and runs) I’ve ever seen!

NOTE – Get your BEAST MODE here!

Afterwards, I got to watch the Cougar hoops team complete a much needed home sweep of the Oregon schools…Doesn’t get much better than that.

Moving on…

Last week, I gave you all a fairly comprehensive update on where we stand on the recruiting front.  However as we all know, recruiting is a very fluid process, especially this time of year.  Therefore I wanted to follow up on last week’s post and further update you on some things that have changed since then.  Here’s a couple of important notes:

Fearsome Foursome Down to Dynamic Duo…

– Last week, I mentioned that the “Fearsome Foursome” from Grant High School in Sacramento, CA would be officially visiting WSU.  However, that does not entirely seem to be the case anymore.  This week at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Viliami Moala and James Sample committed to Cal and UW, respectively.

This is not surprising as both were considered heavy leans to their schools of choice and the Cougs were long shots at landing them.  However, as far as I still know, Faigame Lopa and Darryl Paulo will still be making the trip to Pullman the weekend before signing day… so cross your fingers!

Forget about Fou?

– I also mentioned last week that we were pushing hard for Cerritos Junior College offensive lineman Fou Fonoti.  Fonoti officially visited us in October and seemed to be high on the Crimson and Gray.  We also have a commitment from his friend and Cerritos teammate Eli Edwards.  Michigan State, UCLA, Arizona, and now Rutgers are all making strong pushes for his commitment and after a week full of in-home visits, it’s looking less and less likely that Fou will end up with the Cougs.

Fonoti was a pretty big target for the coaching staff so losing him would definitely hurt, especially considering our needs on the offensive line.

Is there a Mr. Monroe in the House?

–  The recruiting update last week was linked by Ted Miller at ESPN, our friends at Cougcenter, and Vince Grippi of the Spokesman Review!  What an honor!  Mr. Grippi did have an interesting point to make, however, about the status of Darryl Monroe.   I mentioned in the update that Monroe remained committed to the Cougs and that he would be taking classes starting this week.  In response, Grippi stated that “as of Tuesday, whether he’ll be able to accomplish that is still up in the air.”

I may have jumped the gun a bit in assuming that Monroe would be making it in for next semester, but according to him, that was what he had planned.  Of course, the semester starts today so we will know here soon whether or not he was able to make it to campus.

Officially a BIG Weekend Ahead!

– With only three weekends available for official visits before signing day, this weekend figures to be a big one for the Cougs as they host Gonzaga Prep running back Bishop Sankey.  According to Bishop’s father, Sankey will get an in-home visit this week from head coach Paul Wulff before heading south to Pullman for his official.  He will then visit UW the following weekend and Vanderbilt, his most recent offer, the weekend before signing day.

Cougar commit Max Hersey will also come to Pullman this weekend for his official visit.  There is likely to be quite a few more prospects visiting this weekend but due to competitive reasons, the school is usually pretty tight to their vest about who they might be.  I’ll keep you posted as best as I can.

That’s all for now Cougs!  I have another recruiting related post for you later this week so stay tuned!
