Game 52 Preview: Devils Host Panthers

We’ve been waiting a long time for the Devils to look like a team that is comfortable with each other. After going 8-1-1 in the last 10, dare I say they finally look comfortable? Guys like Zubrus, Kovalchuk, Rolston and Elias are really stepping up to help this team as of late.

Tonight’s Game: The New Jersey Devils (18-30-3) vs. the Florida Panthers (22-23-6). These two teams have met twice already this year with the home team winning both games.

The Devils Last Game: In case you missed it, the Devils knocked off the rival New York Rangers at MSG last night. NJ took an 3-0 lead before allowing the Rangers to come back and make a game of it. The Devils got a lucky bounce in the final second of the game to hang on for a 3-2 victory.

Tonight’s Game: Keep it going. Keep throwing pucks at the net and keep allowing the playmakers to make plays. It’s that simple. The formula has worked for them in recent weeks so there is no reason to stray from that game plan.

Keep our penalty box empty. NJ had the Rangers against the ropes but then started taking penalty after penalty last night, which allowed the Rangers to make a game of it in the third. Putting pucks over the glass and taking retaliation penalties is just unacceptable. So tonight, lets stay out of the box.

Florida is a beatable team because they seem to be stuggling a little bit. They are 3-3-4 in their last 10 and coming off a 3-2 loss to the Canadiens on Wednesday night. Hopefully NJ doesn’t focus too much on the task they accomplished last night and gives plenty of attention to the task at hand tonight.

Injuries: Zach Parise (knee), Matt Taormina (ankle), Matthew Corrente (shoulder),  Bryce Salvador (concussion)
