Twinkies Take Mayor’s Cup Lead

The Twins took game one of the Mayor’s Cup tonight with some solid hitting.  Josh Beckett started the game for the Red Sox and gave up a run on two hits in two innings.  Clay Buchholz made his first appearance of spring in relief and pitched two perfect innings while striking out one.  The wheels came off for the Sox when Oki came in to pitch the fifth; he gave up four earned runs in the inning and has already put himself in a big hole if he wants to earn a spot in the pen this season. Dan Wheeler gave up a homer  in his first inning pitching with the Sox.

The offense spread out nine hits but Lars Anderson had the only one for extra bases with a homer in the eighth.
