Red Sox WIN: Dice-K & Jed ROCKED IT!

The Red Sox celebrated Patriot’s Day by winning their 3rd game in a row.  There was a nervous anticipation before this game, many not knowing what Dice-K was going to bring since he gave up 7 runs in 2 innings during his last start.  So, what would Dice-K bring today?  Well…the answer is good news.  DIce-K pitched 7 strong innings allowing only one hit and one walk.  He was pitching to contact and clearly commanding the strike zone.  Dice-K had more 1-2-3 innings than I could count and at one point has a FIVE PITCH INNING.  Dice-K probably could have easily gone out for an 8th inning if we weren’t coasting with a 8-0 score at the time.  I’ve long time been a Dice-K fan…and usually it is a pretty lonely club.  Performances like this is why I am a fan of Dice-K and his stuff.  His performance has easily been the most impressive start of anyone so far.  However, I also accept that Dice-K is often the defintion of inconsistent, so I’d like to see him continue on this roll before I am willing to ask Red Sox Nation to have a sigh of relief.  However, it was still a STELLAR outing from Dice-K!  Alfredo Aceves followed Dice-K and had a scoreless 8th inning.  Tim Wakefield came out and allowed a single homerun to close out the afternoon.

And as for that offense, it was rocking as well.  The story of the offense is the story of Jed Lowrie.  Jed got the Sox on the board early in the 1st with a 2 RBI single.  Jed also got a HR later in the game to put the game clearly on ice.  He was 4 for 5 for the day.  Basically, it was the Jed Lowrie show.  Jed’s current batting average is .516 even though it seems like he is batting 1000.   Jed also made a great play in the field…continuing to make a strong case that he should be the starting shortstop.  Jed wasn’t alone in hitting  the homeruns, he was joined by both Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury.  Ellsbury is currently leading the Sox in HRs with 4.  It should also be noted that the much reported slumping Carl Crawford got himself a nice wall ball RBI double.  I hope that sparks much more to come!  I am sure Carl felt great to get a hit and be productive in the game.  JD Drew was also very effective in the leadoff role.  He went 2 for 4 with a walk.

All in all…this game had a lot of the stuff that we’ve been waiting and expecting to see all season.  A great fantastic win before we head off to the west coast on a road trip.
