Red Wings Sign Chris Conner, All But Guarantee Themselves the Stanley Cup (Unless Shootouts are Involved)

The Red Wings’ bargain bin spending spree continued today when former Michigan Tech forward John Chris Conner agreed to a one-year two-way contract. Conner played for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season and seems to be a cross between Darren Helm and Patrick Eaves: he’s a small dude who is faster than hell and works his ass off… and takes penalty shots like Patrick Eaves.

Conner might not play much in Detroit, but he should. Last season, the Penguins were a ridiculous 39-14-7 with Conner in the lineup and just 10-11-1 without him. In summary: a speedy 4th liner with a tendency to draw penalty shots? I’m in (hint: this one goes a little better for Conner).
