Class of 2012 LB Nyeem Wartman has verbally committed to play football for the Nittany Lions next fall, as reported by Lions 247. A 3-star prospect according to Scout.com, the Archbald, PA native also had offers from N.C. State, Rutgers, Boston College, Illinois, Northwestern, Florida and Pittsburgh, among others.
Standing 6’3” and weighing 230 pounds, Wartman projects to be an OLB at the collegiate level. Here is part of his player evaluation on his Scout.com page. He is ranked as the #30 OLB prospect in the class of 2012:
“More times than not he is in the middle and we see him as more of an outside linebacker. He doesn’t have the quickest first step and when he has to sit back and read it really hinders his skills as an athlete. Wartman needs to be out in space where he can use his athleticism to his advantage.”
Wartman notched 115 tackles (70 solo, 10 for loss), forced two fumbles and intercepted one pass during his junior campaign at Valley View High School.
Wartman becomes the 11th player to commit to the class of 2012, joining Camren Williams as the only other LB prospect. News of Wartman’s commitment comes days after prized DT Jarron Jones decommitted from Penn State and opened his recruiting back up to include Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and North Carolina, along with the Nittany Lions.
