Key matchup for tonight’s Spurs vs. Grizzlies game

The San Antonio Spurs (16-9) will begin their annual Rodeo Road Trip in Memphis to face their divisional foe Memphis Grizzlies (12-12).

This season, the road hasn’t been kind to San Antonio but the Spurs have won their last two game on the road. The Spurs and Grizzlies have met twice this season, where the Spurs won 95-82 on opening night and 83-73 last month. But as the Spurs are riding a four-game winning streak which includes a home victory of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Grizzlies enter tonight’s game on a two-game losing streak which includes defeats to the Celtics and Thunder.

However, though Memphis is still without Zach Randolph due to injury, this team is still a handful for any team in the league. Their star forward, Rudy Gay, is back in action and is playing well. Gay is averaging 17.8 points and 6.3 rebounds and it will be up to Spurs rookie Kawhi Leonard to slow him down.

The Leonard (who has taken on the likes of Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge this season) versus Gay match will be key tonight for the Spurs to come away with their fourth road victory of the season.

So how do these two players match up? Well for the Spurs, it seems Leonard does have an impact (via NBA.com) on Gay when he is on the court.

Check out how effective Leonard is whenever he and Gay are on the court together. Seems Gay’s numbers suffer a bit.
