Jimmer Fredette, Hassan Whiteside and Thomas Robinson will headline Kings summer league team

The Sacramento Kings summer league squad is beginning to take shape.  Today, the team announced 19 players who will compete in a four-day mini camp before the Kings start action in Las Vegas.

The roster is highlighted by sophomore guard Jimmer Fredette, rookie big man Thomas Robinson and third-year center Hassan Whiteside.  Kings starting point guard Isaiah Thomas will not play along with small forward Tyler Honeycutt, who suffered a stress fracture in his right foot that’s sidelined him for at least a month.

Former Kings big man Darnell Jackson is among the notable invitees.  Rather than waiting for a resolution to the NBA lockout last year, Jackson accepted an offer to play in Europe instead.  Jackson will be a positive influence to have around the rookie Robinson, as both Kansas alums have endured their share of personal tragedy in their lives.

After the jump, a list of the entire mini-camp roster, as well as a few notes.

  • Assistants Bobby Jackson and Alex English will serve as co-head coaches of the summer league team.
  • The Kings took a look at six of their mini-camp invites during last month’s pre-draft process.  Kenny Gabriel, Yancy Gates, Augustus (Gus) Gilchrist, Lazeric Jones, James Nunnally and Alex Young all worked out for the Kings prior to the 2012 NBA Draft.
  • Adrian Oliver was a 2011 Kings training camp invite.  The local kid from Modesto also spent some time with the Reno Bighorns, the Kings’ D-League affiliate before signing a contract in Greece.
  • Rob Kurz briefly played for the Golden State Warriors during the 2008-09 season while head coach Keith Smart was an assistant under Don Nelson.  Kurz actually started five games for the Warriors that year.

Summer League action begins next week July 13.  For a complete list of the Kings’ five-game schedule click here.
