Shelton Johnson Highlighted for Off the Field Contributions

JohnsonIn a time where the on the field contributions of players are being recognized by pre-season award watch lists, there’s one award that may mean more than the others to Wisconsin safety Shelton Johnson and that’s being named a nominee for the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.

He is one of 117 players to be nominated for the award overall and at the end of the season two 11 player teams will be announced for FBS football as well as the FCS division. Just one team per DII and DIII will be awarded from the 117 nominees.

Johnson is a nominee because of his humble support for many causes in and around the Badger program. His work includes:

  • Mentoring a child at Spring Harbor Elementary School for two hours per week
  • Voluntarily visiting children at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital while out there for the Rose Bowl
  • Reading to children at various elementary schools and libraries

Those are just a few of the things he’s done without regard to noteriaty or attention and for that he’s been nominated for the most prestigious off-the-field award in college football.

We here at MadTownBadgers are all about supporting our communities and would like to congratulate Shelton Johnson on this nomination and for doing what he can to support the communities he’s involved in.
