The Sacramento Kings return to the court, hoping to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Denver Nuggets today. The Sunday matinee is the first of four match-ups between the Kings and Nuggets this season.

Coming off a victory Friday night over the Memphis Grizzlies, Denver enters today’s game at 12-12. Since the Kings last played them last season, the Nuggets have made some tweaks to their roster.  But starting power forward Jason Thompson knows that they don’t change the Nuggets’ identity.

They’re a fastbreak team. Obviously, can’t turn the ball over. Can’t take quick shots because they’re going to run it down your throat. So you gotta take care of the ball, secure it and play defense.

The Nuggets’ success is predicated on the play of their point guards. Kings guard Isaiah Thomas spoke of his competition today in high regard.

Ty Lawson, he’s a hard guard to guard. I think he’s the fastest in the league from end to end. He’s very fast and dangerous. Then you’ve got Andre Miller that can’t really move too fast, but he’s very strong.  So that’s what I noticed last year – I can get into him a little bit, but he uses his old man strength to his advantage. They got different strengths that they use and they’re two tremendous guards. So we just got to be ready for them and we know that their team goes as their guards go and we gotta be able to stop them.

Tip-off between the Kings and Nuggets is set for 3:00 pm PT at Sleep Train Arena. Follow Cowbell Kingdom for continued pre and postgame coverage.
