What might the Sacramento Kings do with their final roster spot?

The tank that is the Sacramento Kings’ roster is practically full.  With 14 men on board, the Kings are one player away from maximum capacity.  They explored the idea of Timofey Mozgov, only to see him re-sign with the Denver Nuggets.  And they also made a persistent attempt to bring Greg Oden on board, only to lose out in the end to the allure of South Beach and the reigning champion Miami Heat.

What might the Kings do now to fill that final spot?  Last week, ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reported that free agent Lou Amundson was drawing interest from several teams, including Sacramento.  But the chances Amundson lands with the Kings aren’t high despite the organization being intrigued by his talent.

A league source indicated to Cowbell Kingdom that the interest in the 30-year-old power forward stemmed from Amundson’s representation calling teams like the Kings on his behalf.  The source also believes that the eighth-year veteran could command a fully-guaranteed contract, something the Kings might not be willing to give him at this point.

If the Kings are to fill their final roster spot before the season, expect them to look for someone who plays above the rim and possesses solid length.  Whether that’s a swingman or a big man remains to be seen.  And based on the number of guaranteed deals the Kings currently have, don’t anticipate Sacramento to sign anyone beyond a partially-guaranteed contract.  Unless the player can fill a category of need, the Kings are currently not in the market to shell out a fully-guaranteed deal.
