Nate Burleson out indefinitely after single-car accident caused by distracting pizza box

Nate Burleson broke his arm and will undergo surgery on Wednesday after being involved in a single-car accident at or about 2:25 a.m. early Tuesday morning.

As the story goes, Burleson was driving home down interstate 696 after watching Monday Night Football with some teammates when a falling pizza box distracted him and caused him to crash into a center median. The box was supposedly falling off Burleson's front passenger seat and he tried to lean over and catch it, like he's done with a football a team-high 19 times this season. Unfortunately, Burleson crashed and broke his arm in two places. No word on the status of the pizza.

A lot of people are going to speculate as to what really caused the crash. Alcohol? No, police already ruled that out as a possibility. An immigrant passenger he was trafficking in the middle of the night, who obviously fled the scene when the crash happened? Unlikely. Tiredness from being up and driving at 2:25 a.m.? Certainly a possible factor. Only Burleson really knows, but it seems like an innocent, unlucky accident. Let's just be happy that Burleson was not gravely injured and hope he can get back to helping the Lions sooner rather than later.
