Reports: Former Auburn TE Philip Lutzenkirchen Dead in Car Accident

COLUMBUS, GA – According to media reports, former Auburn Tigers tight end, Philip Lutzenkirchen died in a car accident early Sunday morning.

According to The Columbus(GA) Ledger-Enquirer, Lutzenkirchen’s death happened in Troup County, southeast of LaGrange at 3:06 a.m. Sunday, according to Master trooper B.N. Talley of the Georgia State Patrol, who stated that Lutzenkirchen’s vehicle missed a stop sign and traveled through an intersection and off into a churchyard, with his vehicle being out of control for about 450 feet.

Lutzenkirchen, 23, a member of the Auburn Tigers 2010 BCS title-winning team, caught 59 passes for 628 yards and 14 touchdowns for his career.

In 13 starts, during the 2010 season, Lutzenkirchen caught 15 passes for 185 yards and five touchdowns.

In 2011, Lutzenkirchen would be named to the Second-Team All-SEC team by the Associated Press after catching 24 passes for 238 yards and seven touchdowns—third best among tight ends nationally.
