It took one game for the newest member of the Detroit Tigers starting rotation, David Price, to make a name for himself in the team’s long history.

Price became the first Tigers pitcher to strike out at least 10 hitters in his debut with the team. The Elias Sports Bureau noted that the previous mark was nine, a record shared by Wild Bill Donovan (1903) and Milt Wilcox (1977).

Price gave a couple dingers and three earned runs, but he went 8.2 innings, gave up 8 hits, walked none and struck out 10.

Price was the second of what will be three straight Cy Young pitchers to go against the Yankees in this series, and his record start was actually the worst of the Tigers’ last five starts, as ESPN aptly points out. Max Scherzer pitched on Monday and Justin Verlander toes the rubber on Wednesday night.

Welcome to Detroit, Mr. Price.
